Faster CLI startup and transcript memory fixes

Lazy imports make an empty session start much faster, and cleared transcripts release their caches.

    • Import-light startup. The front-end, setup, updater and Markdown imports are deferred, and tokenizer tables load on the first token estimate instead of on construction.
    • Measured win. TUI imports + construction drop from 660 ms to 406 ms, with peak RSS falling from 87.4 MiB to 45.8 MiB (empty session, warm cache).
    • Cleaner memory. Ctrl+L and turn termination now release per-block render caches and finished tool/plugin bookkeeping, while live streams are preserved.

  2. v0.48.0Oct 2, 2026

    A usable composer mid-turn

The full-screen composer stays live while a turn runs — run-safe commands, clipboard paste and a message queue.

    • Run-safe commands mid-turn. /theme, /warnings, /notify, /permissions, /reasoning-effort and read-only info commands execute concurrently with the running turn.
    • Queued messages. Enter during a turn moves the draft into a FIFO queue and sends it automatically when the turn settles; Esc or a failure hands it back instead of losing it.
    • Live controls. Ctrl+V paste, Ctrl+P palette (restricted to run-safe commands), Shift+Tab permission mode and Ctrl+E reasoning effort all stay available mid-turn.
    • Stable header. The active model/provider moved to the footer next to the key hints, with a · N queued marker; live activity is shown only by the in-chat line.

    The questions tool

A bundled plugin lets the agent ask one to four multiple-choice questions in a single interaction.

    • phoson_plugin_questions. An AskUserQuestion-style primitive with a short header, two to four options with descriptions, optional multi-select and an Other free-text fallback.
    • One card per batch. The UI-neutral PluginUiService.ask() renders a whole question batch natively in both the full-screen front end and the classic REPL.
    • Keyboard-first. 1–4 pick an option, Space toggles multi-select, Tab/arrows switch questions, Enter advances and Esc cancels.

    Computer use on Windows

The computer-use plugin gains a Windows backend for desktop capture and synthetic input.

    • GDI capture + SendInput. The screenshot → decide → input loop now runs on Windows alongside the X11, GNOME Wayland and macOS backends.

    Classic REPL autocomplete

The classic REPL gets inline fuzzy autocomplete and a reasoning-effort shortcut.

    • Inline argument autocomplete. Typing /model, /provider, /theme, /reasoning-effort, /sessions load, /resume or /mcp shows a fuzzy dropdown, with lists prefetched so typing never blocks.
    • Ctrl+E reasoning effort. Cycles off → low → medium → high → xhigh → max, persisted and applied from the next turn.
    • Cleaner streaming. Each step's assistant text is printed exactly once, and reasoning stays behind the thinking spinner.

  6. v0.44.1Sep 26, 2026

    MCP display passthrough

stdio MCP servers that launch a GUI process now receive the desktop session's display variables.

    • GUI MCP servers work. DISPLAY, WAYLAND_DISPLAY, XAUTHORITY and XDG_RUNTIME_DIR are forwarded to child servers, while secrets stay out of the environment.

  7. v0.44.0Sep 24, 2026

Warnings switch, MCP toggle and a named window

More control over notices, an interactive MCP menu, and a terminal title that follows the session.

    • /warnings on|off. Gates the CLI warning-notice channel so noisy soft-fail notices can be silenced without disabling Python's normal warning handling.
    • /mcp toggle. Bare /mcp toggle opens a menu of configured servers with tools nested underneath; Enter/space flips a server or a single tool and persists immediately.
    • Session-aware window title. The OSC 2 title follows the session title and is prefixed with * while the agent is working.

  8. v0.43.0Sep 20, 2026

    Speech-to-text plugin

On-device multilingual dictation lands as a bundled plugin, and provider adapters load lazily.

    • phoson_plugin_stt. On-device multilingual speech-to-text backed by Moonshine, contributing a transcribe_audio tool and a Ctrl+O push-to-talk flow.
    • Dictation streams into the prompt. The transcript streams live into the editable prompt without consuming it.
    • Lazy provider adapters. Importing phoson_llm.schemas no longer pulls every provider SDK into the process: cold import drops from ~1.3 s / 77 MB to ~0.35 s / 46 MB.

  9. v0.42.0Sep 17, 2026

    Session titles and resume

Sessions get LLM-generated titles, short ids and a resume hint, and the user turn becomes a full-width band.

    • Auto-titled sessions. A short, tool-free, reasoning-disabled call names the session after the first completed turn; /title always wins and is never overwritten.
    • --session / --resume <id>. Resume by prefix match, with a “To resume run: phoson-cli --session <id>” hint printed on interactive exit.
    • Turn highlight. The user's message renders as a single full-width band and monitor wakes collapse to a compact one-line notice.

Ollama thinking toggle and a Windows installer

A per-request think toggle for hybrid reasoning models, plus a per-user PowerShell install.

    • ModelConfig.think. Forwarded to Ollama for hybrid reasoning models such as Qwen3; PHOSON_OLLAMA_THINK is the fallback when unset.
    • Windows installer. A per-user PowerShell installation path for the CLI.

    Permissions: auto mode goes global

Auto mode now runs annotated plugin tools freely, and policy changes apply without a restart.

    • Global allow default. Auto mode is a global "*": "allow" default consulted before annotation hints, so annotated plugin tools such as the SSH plugin run freely.
    • Live reload. /permissions, the auto-mode cycle and an “always allow” grant reload the durable policy into the live gate immediately.

    Agents Swarm plugin

A bundled plugin orchestrates specialized, concurrent sub-agents with roles, shared state and budgets.

    • Star, mesh and pipeline topologies. A group of concurrently-running sub-agents with roles, a shared blackboard and message routing.
    • Guardrails per member. Each member has its own tools_allowlist (delegation and swarm_* tools are stripped) and is cost-bounded by per-agent and swarm-wide token caps that stop it gracefully.
    • Opt-in via config. enable_swarm / PHOSON_ENABLE_SWARM, with swarm_max_agents and swarm_default_topology.

  13. v0.37.0Sep 14, 2026

    Computer use plugin

The agent gets a screenshot → decide → input loop over the local desktop.

    • Native backends. X11 (mss + XTEST), GNOME Wayland (screenshot portal + Mutter RemoteDesktop) and macOS Quartz (beta).
    • Coordinate mapping owned by the plugin. Captures are downscaled to the model's image limits and input coordinates map back to native pixels, so DPI/Retina/fractional scaling never reach the model.
    • Off by default. enable_computeruse opts in; optional confirmation restores destructive risk hints so input resolves to ask.

  14. v0.36.0Sep 14, 2026

    SSH plugin

Run commands and move files on remote hosts straight from the agent.

    • ssh_exec / ssh_copy_*. Remote command execution, host listing and file transfer over asyncssh, with hosts resolved from plugin config over ~/.ssh/config.
    • Strict by design. known_hosts verification (never auto-add), key/agent auth only and no PTY allocation.
    • Risk-aware. Mutating tools publish destructive/open-world hints, so they resolve to ask and fail closed in one-shot mode.

  15. v0.35.0Sep 14, 2026

    Background jobs

Detached shell jobs that do not block the run and re-activate the agent on completion.

    • run_bg_job / list / stop / wait. One-shot detached jobs with disk as the source of truth (jobs.json + wakes.jsonl, atomic writes).
    • Unified wakes. Monitors and background jobs coexist in one session; each provider renders its own wake header into the same turn.

  16. v0.34.0Sep 14, 2026

    Intent-aware permissions

Policies can be written against what a call does, with a structured audit log and an optional LLM guardian.

    • Intent taxonomy. filesystem_read/write/delete, network_outbound, process_spawn and lang_exec, combined with the tool-name level using strictest-wins.
    • Structured audit log. Every decision emits a PermissionDecision, and becomes a phoson.permission OpenTelemetry span when the otel plugin is enabled.
    • LLM permission guardian. An opt-in classifier reviews ask-level tool calls before a human is bothered, seeing only genuine user turns and the proposed action.
